    This is a promotional page that was created for the 2013 Association of Medical Illustrators' Sourcebook, showing the treatment of chronic otitis media with effusion (persistent fluid buildup in the middle ear) through a myringotomy procedure. This outpatient surgery creates a small hole in the eardrum to drain fluids, and a tiny tube is implanted in the tympanic membrane to help ventilate the middle ear and keep further fluids from accumulating.
